KonMari Folding Series: Pants

Welcome back! We’ll be going over pants folding today. Again, I’ll be showing both the classic KonMari method along with my own variant for when you have mastered the muscle memory. Except for pants that need to be hung up, all pants and shorts are folded the same way (shorts require less folds due to length). Our goal is to make the pants into a compact rectangle that can stand up vertically on its own. Here is a video showing both methods - with a detailed picture guide below.

Traditional Method

1. So first, fold the pants in half and lay flat, smoothing out wrinkles as you go through the process.

2. Fold the extended part of the inseam inward to create the shape of the rectangle.

3. Fold the pants length-wise towards the waistband, leaving about an inch or two gap at the top.

4. Fold the pants again, about 1/3 the way towards the top edge. Then, one more fold will complete the rectangle and you can do the stand test.

5. If your dresser drawers are shallow, pants can be folded more times to condense. Adjust the number of folds to your needs. Here, we will do 3 folds rather than 2 as before. So fold about 1/4.
6. Then fold up again.
7. And with the final fold, you will have the final shape. I present a comparison for the short (7) and tall (7a). The extra fold saves at least a couple inches of storage space.

Alternate Method

1. Hold the pants up to your chest, resting on your shoulder. Fold the inseam piece into the rectangle.
2. Fold the pants up towards the waistband, leaving about a 1 or 2-inch gap.
3. Fold the pants up about 1/3 towards the waistband.
4. With one more fold, the shape is made!
